RLG Nashville’s Sara Evans Serves As Red Cross Celebrity Spokesperson And Joins Alan Jackson In Donating Concert Proceeds

When Sara Evans joined the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet at the beginning of 2005, she had no idea how quickly that role would become such a vital one.  Since joining the board, Evans has witnessed firsthand their efforts on behalf of two of the biggest natural disasters in history – the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.  "We need to let people know what an important role the Red Cross plays whenever there is a disaster.  Just in response to Katrina, more than 26,000 trained Red Cross workers have responded.  They have housed more than 157,000 survivors in shelters, served over 4.6 million hot meals, set up a family links registry...the list goes on and on." Bertelsmann announced yesterday that, together with Random House and other U.S. companies, the Group would donate more than $1 million to the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund.

Evans is making a difference in the hurricane relief effort in other ways as well.  She donated the proceeds from her concert last night in Columbus, Ohio to the Red Cross. Evans opened last night’s concert for another RLG superstar, Alan Jackson, who also donated his proceeds from the concert to the Red Cross hurricane relief effort. Jackson announced his contribution from the Columbus show last week, when he also joined with a Philadelphia radio station and his concert venue there to raise more funds for relief efforts. In this case, Jackson and his two fundraising partners will each donate $1 towards Hurricane Katrina relief efforts for every ticket sold to Jackson’s Philadelphia show. If all 25,000 seats are sold, donations have the potential to approach $75,000.
