UFA Backs ‘Serial Formats’ Degree at Film Academy

UFA has joined forces with the commercial TV channel Sat.1 to enable the Ludwigsburg Film Academy to extend its innovative “Serial Formats” degree. As UFA reports, the film academy had recognized the demand for highly qualified young talents in serial production as early as four years ago and had set up a course of study that systematically teaches the production of series. Now additional lecturers and instructors are being brought in, and a comprehensive range of seminars added, in a move to extend the degree considerably in time for the 2005/2006 winter semester. UFA is providing financial support as well as content and staff.

Experienced producers from companies in the UFA group are on standby to serve as lecturers and instructors. In terms of content, the degree is designed as a sort of Research and Development lab to spur evolution and innovation in the series genre and its subgenres, e.g. sitcoms, telenovelas, daily soaps and weeklies.

Says UFA ’s Managing Director Wolf Bauer: “UFA has always felt a strong commitment to promoting talent and providing university training for producers. We hope that our efforts in Ludwigsburg will supply us with superbly trained young series producers, as well as with fresh new program ideas from the creative lab that we jointly designed this course of studies to be.“
