Gruner + Jahr Donates €100,000 For Pakistan Earthquake Victims, Asks Employees For Help

In view of the extreme suffering of the earthquake victims in Pakistan, the Gruner + Jahr Executive Board has decided to donate €100,000 in immediate aid to the "Stiftung Stern" fund drive. The foundation will forward the money to experienced organizations in the disaster areas, such as "Doctors Without Borders." "Anyone who has read the article about the Kashmir mountains in the latest issue of ‘Stern’ magazine will quickly realize that we cannot just stand by and watch. We must take action to relieve some of this great hardship, fast," says G+J CEO Bernd Kundrun. He also calls on all Gruner + Jahr employees to do their part to help. Any amount they donate will be matched by the publishing company.

The drama currently unfolding in the mountains of Pakistan is beyond imaginable proportions. It is still not clear how many people died in the calamity. Reports vary from 58,000 to 79,000 dead. The UN estimates that, as winter descends on the region, more than two million people are without shelter in the stricken area. Four weeks after the earthquake, survivors now face the prospect of starving or freezing to death. The "Stiftung Stern" foundation is accepting donations to account number 469 95 00 at Deutsche Bank (Bank code 200 700 00). Please include the keyword "Pakistan" on your money transfer.

Help for the victims of the earthquake was forthcoming from Cologne as well, where Stiftung RTL donated €100,000 from its pool of funds for Pakistan. The money went to Caritas, which used it for immediate rescue measures.
