Verlagsgruppe Random House To Print All Hardcover Titles On FSC Paper

Verlagsgruppe Random House will be printing all of its black-and-white hardcover titles on FSC certified paper starting with the spring 2006 production, i.e., with the reading samples in December 2005. The books will receive the internationally recognized FSC seal.

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. The international nonprofit organization with its headquarters in Bonn advocates the conservation of forests worldwide. To get the FSC seal, a company has to fulfill specific criteria regarding social and environmental friendliness throughout its production chain, from the harvesting of trees, to all production facilities, to the finished product. The FSC standards are evaluated every year by the Council and are valid throughout the world.

According to the FSC, the interest in the seal is continuously growing. Verlagsgruppe Random House also changed over to the environmentally friendly paper in a gradual process. For the past one and a half years all BTB and Sammlung Luchterhand paperbacks have been printed on FSC certified paper, and for the past six months the imprint includes the FSC logo. The publishers Goldmann and Heyne joined in three months ago, and all others will now follow starting in December.
