15 Works In Final Round For 'Henri Nannen Prize'

The nominees for the Henri Nannen Prize 2006 have been selected. The jurors chose 15 contributions in five categories for the final round from among a total of 870 submissions. The jury will select the winners on May 11, 2006, and the award will be presented on May 12, 2006 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Günther Jauch will host the event.

"Stern" and Gruner + Jahr are presenting the Henri Nannen Prize for the second time. Journalists apply for the award, named after "Stern" founder Henri Nannen, who died in 1996, in five categories with contributions from 191 German language newspapers and magazines. The award is endowed with €5,000 in each of the categories.

A preliminary jury – journalists from various German editorial teams – recommended a shortlist of 35 works for the primary jury's meeting on March 14, 2006. The eleven members of the primary jurors had a hard time when it came to selecting the 15 contributions for the final round. Jury member Thomas Osterkorn, Editor-in-Chief of "Stern": "The selection was especially difficult this time around since top-caliber work was submitted in all of the categories; we needed intensive discussions to determine the best three in each category."
