Collection Campaign: France Loisirs Donates Books

Books that have been read and are never again picked up by their owners are simply gathering dust on shelves in many homes. However, there are other people who really cannot afford to buy books. This sad reality inspired the French book club France Loisirs to put out a very special call to its customers: "Many of you may place your books on a shelf, read and then forgotten. These books can bring happiness to somebody else." This call invited club members and others to bring the books they no longer need to one of the 202 French France Loisirs shops, and it was a total success: after six weeks, 380,000 books were handed over to the charity project partner Secours Populaire Français, which forwarded the books to individuals in need. The employees of France Loisirs also made a contribution: they added 4,000 books to the collection and brought them to the shop in Paris.

By the way, this was not the first time France Loisirs has collected literature for a good cause. In 1999, a considerable number of books were collected in the same way.
