Awarded: Axel Springer Prize Goes To Stern.de Authors
Countries, people, and adventures: on May 3, the renowned Axel Springer Prize was awarded in Berlin. The award winners received their award in Berlin's Axel-Springerhaus. Among them were the two Stern.de journalists Helge Bendl and Klaus Kranewitter. With their reportage "Mekong" they earned a third place award worth €2,500 in the category "Internet." The jury of five, among them Claus Strunz, Editor-in-Chief of "Bild am Sonntag," had to select the three best contributions in this category from among 36 submissions.
Bendl and his cameraman Klaus Kranewitter traveled more than 3,000 kilometers in rubber dinghies. The reporters passed through six countries in six weeks, from Vietnam to Cambodia to China. They reported about their adventures and encounters on the Mekong, one of the world's longest rivers, in an online diary with text, pictures and video clips.
"We and the authors are very happy about this award. It represents the growing interest of Internet users in interconnected multimedia content. 'Stern' and Stern.de will further develop their offers in this segment," explained Barbara Hamm, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Stern.de.
The Axel Springer Prize was created to promote young talents and is considered the most important award for German speaking young talents in journalism.
