Dedicated: Arvato Gives Its Prize Money To The FSC

On Monday, at the reception to a plenary assembly of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Arvato AG’s Environmental Officer Andreas Henrichs presented a €10,000 check to FSC Task Group Chairman Hermann Graf. In a show of support for promoting responsible forestry, Arvato AG had donated the prize money that came with the “Global 100 Eco-Tech Award” it had received at the Expo 2005 in Japan.

The FSC is a globally active, independent organization dedicated to preserving the world’s forests and a responsible treatment of natural resources, to ensure an economical and environmentally friendly cultivation of these limited resources in the future. To achieve its goals, the FSC has created an internationally accredited “FSC seal” for wood products delineating criteria for companies that manufacture and process wood products. The relevant production departments at Arvato have committed to these guidelines, including Arvato’s two subsidiaries Mohn Media and GGP Media, whose products bear the FSC seal. “In this context, it makes absolute sense to give the FSC the prize in support of a specific project,” said Arvato AG CEO Hartmut Ostrowski, explaining his company’s commitment to the cause.

The FSC has developed a project to introduce children and teens to the issue of responsible forestry. Specifically, this means that the FSC system will be explained in greater detail in schoolbooks from now on, to help sensitize children to environmentally conscious conduct from the beginning.

“Arvato AG is a good example for how companies can positively influence markets by treating resources considerately themselves, and encouraging others to do so,” said Graf Hatzfeldt, commending Arvato’s successful implementation of environmental guidelines and financial support of the planned project.
