Christoph Mohn Elected to Bertelsmann AG's Supervisory Board
On Wednesday, Bertelsmann AG's extraordinary General Meeting has elected Christoph Mohn, CEO of Lycos Europe N.V., as a member of the Supervisory Board of Bertelsmann AG with immediate effect. Following the buyback of Groupe Bruxelles Lambert’s (GBL) stake in Bertelsmann, both GBL representatives resigned from Bertelsmann AG's Supervisory Board.
Christoph Mohn has been a regular attendee at Bertelsmann AG Supervisory Board meetings since 2003. He is also a shareholder of the Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft (BVG), which owns 100 percent of the voting rights at Bertelsmann AG’s General Meeting.
Prof. Dr. Dieter H. Vogel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Bertelsmann AG: “With Christoph Mohn, the Supervisory Board gains an experienced businessman who is very familiar with not only Bertelsmann, but with the opportunities and challenges of the world of digital media. We look forward to a trusting working relationship – one that will contribute to the good of the company.”
Since 1997, Christoph Mohn (41) has served as Chief Executive Officer of Lycos Europe, the Internet portal and online marketing services provider. After studying Business Administration at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster, Germany, he began his career in 1992 with the Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), working in New York in various capacities over the period of two years. In 1994 he joined the business consulting group McKinsey & Company, Germany, where he specialized in the electronics and telecommunications industries. Two years later, Mr. Mohn was named Vice President of the Bertelsmann subsidiary Telemedia, where he was responsible for business development. Among his first achievements in this role was the launching of a cooperation between Bertelsmann AG and the American company Lycos Inc. – a joint venture which resulted in the creation of Lycos Europe N.V. in 1997. The European portal provider went public in 2000.
