Statement of Liz and Reinhard Mohn regarding New Top Leadership Appointments at Bertelsmann

„We welcome Hartmut Ostrowski’s appointment as the future Chairman & CEO as part of the changes in Bertelsmann’s top leadership. These decisions safeguard the company’s successful development for the long term. Hartmut Ostrowski stands for excellence in entrepreneurship and great business success – and his managerial style of leadership through partnership embodies Bertelsmann’s proven corporate culture. He systematically made the most of his entrepreneurial freedom, always displaying the highest degree of creativity and strategic farsightedness.

Gunter Thielen has very successfully managed Bertelsmann’s evolution over the past few years and has much planned for the current year as well. Bertelsmann today is stronger than ever and holds out an excellent future for its 95,000 employees. Gunter Thielen’s move to the head of the Supervisory Board next January ensures that his counsel, which we value deeply, will be retained at a key position in the company. We welcome that he will also head the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and will continue to bring new momentum to the foundation.

We thank Supervisory Board Chairman Dieter Vogel for his long years of successful work on the Supervisory Board. Dieter Vogel is a bona fide Bertelsmann expert and will remain affiliated with us as a shareholder in the Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft (BVG) and a close confidant. In these capacities, he will continue to contribute his entrepreneurial expertise for Bertelsmann’s benefit.”
