Grupo Antena 3 Launches New Awareness Campaign

The Spanish group of channels Antena 3 underscores its social commitment with an awareness campaign addressing childhood obesity. At the beginning of the month, the TV channels Antena 3, Neox, Nova, and Nitro, the portal antena3.com, and the radio stations Onda Cero and Europa FM launched the campaign entitled "El Estiron." In addition to various multimedia-based health campaigns, the awareness campaign focuses on a 45-second TV spot with actors from, for example, the famous Antena 3 format "Los Protegidos."

A special section is established on the portal Antena3.com for this purpose, including numerous health tips and information and educational material that are constantly being extended and updated. For example, Antena 3 aims to make a contribution there and in other media to fight against childhood obesity by providing nutrition advice. According to experts, this problem increasingly stands at the beginning of illnesses but can be easily prevented with reasonable nutrition and sufficient exercise. 

The new campaign seamlessly fits in with the established commitment of Grupo Antena 3. So far, the group of channels, in which RTL Group holds a 21.5 percent stake, launched similar initiatives with "Vide conectado" and "Hazte eco," as well as the thus far biggest and most comprehensive corporate responsibility campaign in the company's history in March 2008. The latter aims to improve transportation safety on Spain's roads.

Now, according to the company, the problem of overweight children is similarly urgent for the country. After Italy, Greece, and Malta, Spain is most concerned with this issue in Europe. As of today, almost 30 percent of Spanish children are overweight.
