Super RTL And DLRG Promote Swimming Lessons

The open-air bathing season has begun; however, according to a study by the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft (DLRG, German Life Saving Association) 45 percent of primary school children are not strong swimmers even after finishing fourth grade. Many children in Germany do not have the possibility to take swimming lessons at an early age to learn the basics. Only 55 percent acquire a bronze swimming certificate, which is considered the minimum requirement to be a safe swimmer. This is where Super RTL and DLRG step in.

Under the motto "Toggolino Abenteuer Großwerden – Das große Schwimmen Lernen" ("Toggolino Adventures of Growing Up – The Big Swimming Lessons") the children's channel has initiated a campaign that will run from June through July aimed at communicating the most important information about safe swimming. Parents can also find safety advice and bathing rules that the DLRG prepared in a way that is age appropriate on the online platform toggolino.de. With a free beginner's game about the summer swimming fun, families can approach the subject of "safe swimming" together. In addition, Super RTL is giving away 100 swimming courses for children throughout Germany. The participants are invited to send a funny swimming-related photo of their children to the contact address at toggolino.de for a chance to win and ultimately to say: safely into the water without water wings.

Super RTL's Managing Director Claude Schmit is promoting "Das große Schwimmen Lernen" and is planning more campaigns for preschool children that will be dedicated to dental care and nutrition, among other issues. "By communicating the basics of swimming we are launching a comprehensive initiative that aims to accompany and support children in their development. In cooperation with renowned partners Toggolino, the mascot of our preschool program, will communicate knowledge about everyday subjects to the youngest children in a way that is appropriate for their age and lots of fun."
