Wissenmedia And Random House India Agree Cooperation

Random House India has signed an agreement with Bertelsmann sister company Wissenmedia to license and adapt the company’s knowledge and learning book titles for publication into the Indian market.

The first title „Bertelsmann Wer Weiss Warum?“ (“Bertelsmann Knowledge for Clever Kids”) – a children?s book that has been successful in German book retail – will be published in January 2012 with an initial 100,000 print run in English.

Gaurav Shrinagesh, Managing Director of Random House India, sees the collaboration with Wissenmedia as an excellent opportunity to jointly corner part of a fast-growing market: “The combination of Random House India?s publishing and sales experience coupled with Wissenmedia?s experience with relevant international content will allow us to provide the consumer with even more choice and establish a strong platform for our future growth.”

Christoph Hünermann, Managing Director of Wissenmedia, adds: “The Indian publishing industry is really flourishing. For the rapidly growing middle classes, education represents a means of advancement. So – much as in China – we can do particularly well with our popular-science books.”

The licensing and sales agreement will cover the Indian subcontinent, the Philippines and the Middle East.
