Karin Schlautmann to Head Bertelsmann AG Corporate Communications

Karin Schlautmann (46) has been appointed to head Bertelsmann AG Corporate Communications with immediate effect. Schlautmann has supervised communications for the Bertelsmann Stiftung foundation to date. Schlautmann succeeds Thorsten Strauß (44), who has headed Corporate Communications since 2008, in connection with the upcoming changeover at the top of Bertelsmann AG.

After earning a degree in literature and history, Karin Schlautmann completed an internship at the “Westfalen-Blatt” in Bielefeld. She went on to work as an editor with the TV presenter Thomas Gottschalk and in various positions at the German daily “Bild”, most recently as chief reporter and senior editor. This was followed by stints at “Bunte” magazine and as Deputy Editor-in-Chief at “Gala,” before she was appointed Editor-in-Chief of “Frau im Spiegel” magazine. In 2007 she joined the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Gütersloh as the foundation’s communications chief.

Thomas Rabe, Chief Financial Officer, Head of the Corporate Center at Bertelsmann AG, and Chairman & CEO of Bertelsmann AG as of January 1, 2012, says: “I am very pleased that we are gaining a bona fide communications expert in the person of Karin Schlautmann. She has many years of experience in journalism and has provided impressive proof that her expertise spans the full range of contemporary corporate communications.”

Hartmut Ostrowski, Chairman & CEO of Bertelsmann AG, says: “I thank Thorsten Strauß for his hard work and achievements in various positions throughout the group over the past 12 years. He has done an excellent job and was formative in shaping Bertelsmann’s development and public image, especially in his time as Head of Communications from 2008 on.“
