Random House In The Running For Important Literary Awards

Just in time for the world's largest book fair in Frankfurt, the finalists for two of the most important literary awards in North America have been announced - the "National Book Award" in the U.S. and the "Governor General's Awards" in Canada. Random House authors are in the running for the prestigious awards in both countries.

Three titles from Random House publishers are nominated for the "2011 National Book Award: in Fiction, "The Buddha In The Attic" by Julie Otsuka (Knopf) and "The Tiger's Wife" by Téa Obreht (Random House); and in Young People's Literature, Albert Marrin’s "Flesh and Blood So Cheap: The Triangle Fire And Its Legacy" (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers). Actually there are three and a half nominations, as Random House’s Listening Library publishes the audiobook version of another nominee: "Okay For Now" by Gary D. Schmidt, read by Lincoln Hoppe.

In addition Random House of Canada has six titles in the running for the "Governor General's Awards" : "The Little Shadows" by Marina Endicott (Doubleday, USA) and "Touch" by Alexi Zentner (Knopf Canada ) in Fiction; "Mordecai" by Charles Foran (Knopf Canada ) and "Nation Maker" by Richard Gwyn (Random House of Canada ) in Nonfiction; "Blink & Caution" by Tim Wynne-Jones (Candlewick Press) in Children's Literature: Text; and "Apocalypse for Beginners," translated by Lazer Lederhendler and written by Nicolas Dickner (Vintage Canada ), in Translation: French to English .

The winners of the "Governor General's Award” will be announced on Nov 15, the "National Book Award" winners on Nov 16.
