Relief For Gravely Ill Children: Bertelsmann Donates €25,000
Bertelsmann’s Corporate Center in Gütersloh has again donated €25,000 to severely ill children in the region again in 2011. This is the fifth time our international media group has supported the "Der Weg nach Hause" ("The Way Home") initiative , which promotes outpatient care for children with cancer in a home setting. On Dec 23 Thomas Rabe, head of the Corporate Center and Bertelsmann CEO designate, presented the check to Professor Dr. Johannes Otte, Chief Physician of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus children's center in Bielefeld, and Martin Johnsson, Director of the "Der Weg nach Hause" project of the Bethel Children’s Center and Luca-Dethlefsen-Hilfe .
" ‘Der Weg nach Hause ’ is an exemplary project and we are once again happy to donate to the initiative this year," says Rabe, who gave another €25,000 from his own pocket to the project, thereby doubling the donation. "Especially at Christmas, it is important to help enable seriously ill children and their families to spend valuable time together."
Professor Otte thanked Bertelsmann for the donation, saying: "The money will allow us to secure and expand our relief efforts for the children." Bertelsmann’s continued support in recent years has financed a part-time physician's position , among other things.
Including the latest donation, Bertelsmann AG has donated a total of €125,000 to "Der Weg nach Hause" since 2006. The international media company regularly makes this donation instead of giving Christmas gifts to its business partners and customers.
