RTL Belgium Wins EnvironMINDaward

On 9 May 2012, members of the environMINDteam from all major RTL Group subsidiaries met in Brussels to discuss matters of environmental protection. On the occasion, a prize was awarded to RTL Belgium for its efforts in this area.

"In the fifth year of the environMIND-initiative, it was time to reward outstanding achievements," said Oliver Herrgesell, Environmental Chief Officer at RTL Group as he presented the award to RTL Belgium CEO Philippe Delusinne.

“In 2004, we decided to build a new headquarter and gather all RTL Belgium employees under one roof. Under the leadership of Stéphane Geerts, Director of Facility Management, we took up this huge challenge while integrating as many environmentally friendly features as possible. The outcome is beyond our expectations and I am delighted that this initiative has been rewarded today with an environMINDaward. I would like to emphasise the fact that environmental matters are part of the daily life of the company," said Mr. Delusinne.

In 2008, RTL Belgium became the first – and to date only – only RTL Group subsidiary to be fully powered by renewable energy. This initiative is the most tangible evidence of the company's commitment to sustainable growth and the prudent use of natural resources. RTL Belgium’s environmental approach is comprehensive, also covering energy reduction, waste reduction and transport. For example, the company subsidizes all of its employees’ public transport costs and its company-car policy encourages the use of cleaner vehicles. In addition to numerous in-house initiatives, RTL Belgium is committed to broadcasting programs intended to raise public awareness.

The environMINDaward was presented by the founding members of the environMINDteam who voted unanimously to grant this first prize to RTL Belgium.
