‘RTL – Wir helfen Kindern’ Donates 1.2 Million Euro To Children’s Center

When the cheque for the new Stups children’s center in Krefeld was handed over on the construction site there were a lot of happy faces. Thanks to a donation of 1,196,789 euro from the nonprofit foundation “RTL – Wir helfen Kindern”, the conversion and expansion of the institution of the DRK Schwesternschaft Krefeld for disadvantaged children and their families has been made possible. Along with the excavators and construction workers was German pop star Andrea Berg. Germany’s most successful singer has been committed to supporting the projects of the DRK Schwesternschaft for many years. In 2011, the singer born in Krefeld raised money as a patron of “RTL – Wir helfen Kindern” for the construction of the children’s center and personally donated 100,000 euro from the sales of her current album “Abenteuer” (Adventure).

As she presented the cheque alongside RTL’s Charity Chief Wolfram Kons, Andrea Berg said, “I’m overwhelmed because I personally know many of the children and their families who will benefit from the center.” The Stups children’s center is a very special project: irrespective of how seriously ill or disabled the children are, the center assures that life for the children and their families is worth living. Andrea Berg remarked that she is very happy to be able to make a contribution to getting this unique institution on course. “This place is a real matter of the heart for me, it’s a magical place. Thanks to the generous help of ‘RTL – Wir helfen Kindern’ and the RTL viewers we will be able to provide many happy hours to many people here. My thanks go to all who have enabled this.”

Wolfram Kons added: “We are certain that every cent will be put to use in a responsible way here, and we look forward to officially opening the children’s center along with our patron Andrea Berg. She is a wonderful and ideal patron, one we could only wish for: a trained children’s nurse and committed star.”

The Stups children’s center carried by the DRK Schwesternschaft Krefeld will be dedicated in the beginning of October. Then, it will be able to assure the all-round care for healthy, ill and disabled children and their families. The children will be able to spend beautiful hours together with other children their age, and they will be able to play together and stay overnight – always accompanied by specialists.

The children’s center is designed as a building ensemble with areas for resting, health care, play and movement as well as meeting rooms; it will have equipment that is appropriate for the children and beautiful outdoor areas. This enables loving and competent care for ill and healthy children, offering the parents room for relaxation and communication. In addition, the center will offer short-term care for seriously ill and disabled children starting at infancy, a flexible 24/7 day- and night-care for healthy and ill children as well as an integrative daycare center for children aged two and older.
