Creative And Eco-Friendly:‘Taking Action’ Wins BCP Special Award

Sustainability wins. Bertelsmann’s Corporate Responsibility Report 2010/2011 "Taking Action" won a prestigious Best of Corporate Publishing (BCP) Award in Berlin on Tuesday. Each year, the Forum Corporate Publishing honors Germany’s best corporate publications in Germany with the awards, which are considered the most important in the CP industry. "Taking Action" won the special award for "Green Publishing,” presented by the paper manufacturer Steinbeis, for publications that impressively combine creativity and environmental protection.

The Bertelsmann Corporate Responsibility Report, which was designed and implemented by G+J Corporate Editors, not only covers sustainability issues, but was also sustainably produced. The report was printed on FSC-certified recycled paper by the Arvato subsidiary Mohn Media, which used only organic, vegetable oil-based inks in its printing. And because the printing company uses a combined heat and power plant, CO2 emissions were reduced by up to 52 percent compared to conventional energy use. The judges highlighted all these factors at the BCP awards ceremony.

"One thing was very important to us in our very positive and successful cooperation with G+J Corporate Editors: that the report should combine a credible perspective through journalistic content with responsible execution," says Barbara Kutscher, Director of Corporate Responsibility at Bertelsmann. "I’m delighted that this holistic approach was acknowledged today." The report also marks the first time the company followed the guidelines issued by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which confirmed the company’s Application Level as B+.
