Bertelsmann Once Again Donates €25,000 to Critically Ill Children

The Bertelsmann Corporate Center has once again made a Christmas donation of €25,000 for critically ill children in the region. For the sixth time, the sum goes to the "Der Weg nach Hause" ("The Way Home") project run by the Bethel Children’s Center and Luca-Dethlefsen-Hilfe. The project provides palliative care and support to children in the last stages of their lives in their home environment. On Dec 21, Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe presented the check to Professor Dr. Johannes Otte, Chief Physician of the Evangelisches Krankenhaus children's center in Bielefeld, and Martin Johnsson, Director of the "Der Weg nach Hause" project.

"No one likes to imagine what it means when a child is terminally ill. It is therefore important to support initiatives that provide care for these children and their families. This is why we are glad to provide the ‘Der Weg nach Hause’ project with funding again this year," said Thomas Rabe, who also matched the donation with another €25,000 from his own pocket.

"This donation helps us greatly in being able to give help," said Professor Otte. "Bertelsmann’ steady support over the years has enabled us to co-finance a physician’s salary, among other things."

In sum, counting this year's donation, Bertelsmann has now donated €150,000 to the "Der Weg nach Hause" project since 2006. The international media company has waived the same amount in Christmas gifts to business partners.
