G+J Donates 83,000 Euro For Human Rights Organization Reporters Without Borders
The auction of “FTD” memorabilia generated 41,640,56 euro, and now the G+J board of management has increased the total to 83,000 euro, making good on Gruner + Jahr’s promise to match the amount raised by the charity campaign. The money will go to the organization Reporters without Borders, which fights for the freedom of the press worldwide.
The “Financial Times Deutschland” auctioned off numerous pieces of memorabilia on eBay in the beginning of December, among them a first issue in a signed gift box, a poster sized 300x200 cm “FTD” page, probably the biggest ever, and an original drawing by Karl Lagerfeld that turned out to be the big winner of the auction.
Reporters without Borders (Reporters sans frontières) was founded in 1985 in Montpellier in the south of France by a small number of journalists; today it is a globally active human rights organization. A network of more than 140 correspondents, nine sections and three offices advocates for the freedom of expression and of the press around the world, researches and documents abuses against these human rights and supports persecuted journalists and media.
