Destined For Bestsellerdom: Random House Announces Lauren Kate Trilogy

Random House Children’s Books yesterday revealed the cover for “Teardrop,” the first novel in the next series from Lauren Kate, author of the #1 “New York Times” bestselling “Fallen” novels. Delacorte Press will publish three “Teardrop” novels and three e-original short stories, all edited by Wendy Loggia, Executive Editor, and acquired from Michael Stearns and Ted Malawar of Inkhouse. “Teardrop” will be published this fall, on October 22, 2013.

Since the publication of “Fallen” in December 2009, and the subsequent “Torment,” “Passion,” “Rapture” and “Fallen in Love,” Lauren Kate’s series has sold over 2.5 million copies in print, audio, and ebooks in North America alone. An international phenomenon as well, rights have been sold in 33 countries and Kate’s story of star-crossed lovers (and fallen angels) continues to gain new fans, capturing the hearts and imaginations of readers all over the world.

Random House Children’s Books built up the excitement for today’s reveal of the “Teardrop” cover last week by promising to share a part of the cover in advance on the “Fallen” Facebook page (Facebook.com/FallenNovels) if it reached 315,000 likes by last Friday. Fans responded enthusiastically with the page now having exceeded that target by over 1,000, proving eager anticipation for Kate’s next novel.

In “Teardrop,” everywhere Eureka Boudreaux goes in New Iberia, Louisiana, he is there: Ander, the tall, pale blond boy who seems to know things he shouldn’t. But not her darkest secrets—how a freak accident ripped Eureka’s mother from her side, drowning her in the Florida Keys, and how Eureka wishes she was dead, too. All Eureka cares about are the things her mother left behind, including an ancient book, which reveals a haunting tale of a girl who got her heart broken and cried an entire continent into the sea. Eureka has little knowledge of the lost land of Atlantis, but she’s about to discover that the tale isn’t just a story ... and her life has far darker undercurrents than she ever imagined.

Haunting, mysterious, romantic and steeped in mythology and dark magic, “Teardrop” is the epic saga of a 17-year old Louisiana girl whose tears have the power to raise the lost continent of Atlantis, and a world where everything you love can be washed away at any moment. The book will be supported by a yearlong major national marketing and publicity campaign.
