Carnival Society Helps Children’s Relief Projects In Cologne
Following the motto “Party and do good”, the carnival society “Lost Sisters” makes children’s eyes twinkle in the midst of winter and in time for the traditional women’s carnival. Within the framework of its annual carnival event “Jeckenklink am Rhing” in Cologne’s “Rheinterrassen”, Boris Becker, chairman of the “Lost Sisters”, presented a check for over 60,000 euro to RTL’s Charity Chief Wolfram Kons last Thursday.
“RTL – Wir helfen Kindern” will use the money for two children’s relief projects: “Breakfast4kids” and the “RTL-Kinderhaus” at Kölnberg. Currently, “Breakfast4kids” supplies more than 200 students in five of Cologne’s primary schools with lunchtime sandwiches for one year. In the “RTL-Kinderhaus” on Kölnberg, socially disadvantaged children are supported with warm meals and homework tutoring as well as creative games and promotional programs.
The “Lost Sisters” have been socially committed in Cologne for more than ten years. With the proceeds from their annual carnival event (“Jeckenklinik am Rhing” and “Dschungelfieber”) they have donated more than 311,000 euro to help Cologne’s children in need. Added are other sponsors who support the projects of the “Lost Sisters”.
Over 109 million euro in 16 years
RTL has been committed to helping children in need in Germany and throughout the world since 1996. Money is raised throughout the year through numerous charity campaigns, and RTL pays for all administrative, personnel and production costs. Each donation is forwarded to the selected children’s relief projects without a cent being deducted. This is what “RTL – Wir helfen Kindern” and the “RTL-Spendenmarathon” telethon have been representing for over 16 years. The foundation is evaluated by the Deutsches Zentralinstitut für Soziale Fragen (DZI, German Central Institute for Social Issues) each year and never fails to receive the coveted DZI charity seal. In the past years a total of over 109 million euro has been raised, according to the foundation. “RTL – Wir helfen Kindern” has thus been able to sponsor more than one hundred children’s relief projects, providing sustainable help to tens of thousands of children in Germany and worldwide.
