Subject: Media & Services
Country: Germany
Category: Project

Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland expands its barrier-free offer: starting next year, a number of shows across all channels will be subtitled, increasing the average of subtitled programming within the group of channels to ten hours per day – including at least four different shows during primetime.

For the New Year, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland will expand its subtitling offer. Among others, the daily soap “Alles was zählt” (weekdays, 7:05 p.m. on RTL) will be optionally broadcast with subtitles starting 2 January 2018. In addition, RTL II plans to subtitle all of its broadcasts at 8:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

Starting in 2018, an average of ten hours of subtitled programming per day will be offered across the group of channels, as Mediengruppe RTL announced – including at least four different shows during primetime. The subtitled offer on RTL includes “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten”, “Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus!” as well as the fiction highlights “Magda macht das schon” and “Der Lehrer” along with “Alles was zählt”. The shows “Grill den Profi” and “Kitchen Impossible” will continue as barrier-free broadcasts on Vox as well. Fiction fans can look forward to the subtitling of the new Vox series “Milk & Honey”. Football matches will be broadcast with subtitles on Nitro and on RTL.

Overview Available Online

An overview of the subtitling offer on RTL and Vox is available on the websites of the channels (www.rtl.de  and www.vox.de  ) under the menu item “TV Programm”. All shows with subtitles are marked with the “UT” symbol in the program guide.

The subtitling offer of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland can be received through almost all digital distribution channels. The condition for reception via DVB-S/S2, DVB-C or DVB-T2 HD is that the TV set or device must support the “DVB Subtitle” standard. If the device supports this technical standard, the subtitles will be available by a simple push of a button on the device’s remote control.
