The UFA Fiction production "Deutschland 83” has won another award: at the "C21 International Drama Awards” presented last Wednesday in London, the eight-part RTL event series outperformed its competitors in two categories – Best non-English language drama series” and "Best casting of a drama series”. Just a few days earlier, the espionage series won the "Special Jury Award” at the "Roma Fiction Fest 2015” in Italy. "Deutschland 83” is also nominated for a "Satellite Award” of the International Press Academy in Los Angeles in the category "Television Series, Drama” competing against other top caliber series including "Narcos”, "Fargo”, "Better Call Saul”, "Bloodline”, "Ray Donovan”, "American Crime” and "Mr. Robot”. The winners of the Satellite Awards will be announced on 21 February 2016 in Los Angeles.
Philipp Steffens, Divisional Head RTL Fiction, says: "We are very proud of our series 'Deutschland 83', and the nomination for the Satellite Award is more confirmation that we were able to set an exclamation mark in the German and international market with this unusual series. After the successful launch last week, we very much look forward to the next broadcasts of the suspenseful espionage story.”
"Deutschland 83” has been on an incredible journey since the beginning of the year. It all began with the world premiere at the international Berlinale film festival in February 2015. Then came the announcement of the deal with the American television channel Sundance TV, which has broadcast "Deutschland 83” with English subtitles, the first German language series ever in the US. The American media praised the series. In the meantime, the internationally acclaimed RTL series has been sold to more than 20 countries.
In addition to the broadcast in the US and the launch on RTL last Thursday, "Deutschland 83” has premiered in other European countries as well. The eight-part event series about Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay), the young soldier in the NVA National People's Army who is sent to the Federal Republic as a GDR agent with the purpose of spying out secret plans of the Federal Army, is currently being broadcast in Spain, Italy and Ireland. From 3 January 2016, "Deutschland 83” will air during primetime on the British Channel 4.
