'Télévie 2016' Sets New Record

Subject: Society, Media & Services
Country: Belgium
Category: Project

The outcome of this year's "Télévie" charity campaign of RTL Belgium and RTL Lëtzebuerg last Saturday was a new record: the total of €10,141,650 will now go to benefit of medical research.

The day began with the broadcast of the auction "Les Disques d'Or" (Golden Records) on the Belgian TV channel Bel RTL, where golden records of stars such as Johnny Hallyday, Patrick Bruel, Coldplay, Kenji Girac, Louane, Lara Fabian and Pascal Obispo were auctioned off for the cause. Throughout the afternoon, Olivier Pairoux and Pablo Andres in his comedy role as police officer Verhaegen auctioned off more extraordinary and exclusive objects as part of the "Télévie" campaign: the Mercedes from the film "Dikkenek", a boxing glove autographed by Mike Tyson and a poster of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" autographed by the actors in the film.

€162 million raised since 1989

During the closing gala of "Télévie", Stéphane Pauwels led a spinning marathon. The host himself pedaled alongside many volunteers and sport personalities to raise as much money as possible. Musically, many artists again answered the call of "Télévie": Adamo, Puggy, Alice On The Roof, Angunn, Gérald De Palmas and many others.

The "Télévie" charity campaign was called into life in 1989 by RTL Belgium to support the cancer and leukemia research of the organization formerly called Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique. RTL Lëtzebuerg joined the campaign in 2002. For years, it has activated tens of thousands of people to raise money for cancer research, especially leukemia. In 2015 more than €9.5 million was collected in Belgium and Luxembourg – a record in the history of "Télévie". In the years since its establishment, over €162 million has been raised, financing numerous scholarships for scientists. Since 2005 RTL Group has been organizing its own sport event for charity purposes: the "Télévie Challenge" and the associated "Télévie Challenge on Tour". This year alone, €75,000 was raised through these events. Francesco Costadura, Group HR Chief Designate of RTL Group, and Oliver Fahlbusch, Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing of RTL Group, presented the cheque to the "Télévie" association.
