Mediengruppe RTL Deutschlands “Tag der Hilfe” – “Day of Help” – on Wednesday impressively highlighted the enormous willingness of viewers to donate even a week after the launch of the donations campaign to benefit those affected by the flooding in Germany. Since its launch on Thursday of last week, “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” has received a total of €5,177,331 for families in the flooded regions. “Our viewers didn’t let down the children and their families who have lost everything due to the disaster,” said Wolfram Kons, Member of the Executive Board of the “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” and Head of RTL Charity. “Their enormous willingness to donate and the commitment of our cooperation partners have made the ‘Day of Help’ a veritable day of hope.”

Throughout Wednesday, all channels of Mediengruppe RTL supported the “Day of Help”. Starting at 6 a.m. and continuing until past midnight, all of the channels not only reported about the fate of the people affected by the floods and the efforts that are underway to help them, but also requested donations. The requests were a complete success and, along with the reporting, moved and reached people across the country: 13.34 million watched the reports and requests for donations. “One week after the day of the floods, Mediengruppe RTL mobilized all of its forces and pooled them together for the ‘Day of Help’,” said Bernd Reichart, Chairman of the Board of “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” and CEO Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. “Throughout the day, we reached the most varied target groups on all of our channels and turned our donations campaign into a big success.”

Some of the donated funds have already been used for the ongoing on-site emergency relief. The donations will also finance the reconstruction of destroyed daycare centers for children and youths. As a cooperation partner of “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.”, the German Red Cross (DRK) has been active in the region and helping people by providing mobile medical clinics, distributing food and clothing, and providing power generators. In addition to the help already underway, the money will go towards the reconstruction of destroyed institutions for children.
