The RTL Zwei production “Hass. Hetze. Hoffnung.” (Hate. Hate Speech. Hope.) will be honored with the renowned Grimme Prize in the “Information & Culture” category on April 24 in Marl. Based on the murder of Chinese student Lǐ Yángjié in 2016, the two-part documentary takes an in-depth look at everyday racism against people of Asian descent and stereotypical sexualization. The authors Linda Kokkores and Lillian Malan, author Philipp Link (Gute Zeit Film), and directors Claudia Tuyết Scheffel and Quỳnh Lê Nguyễn realized the documentary in collaboration with Neos Film. The editor for RTL Zwei was Kristin Mager. “Congratulations to everyone involved on this special award,” said Konstanze Beyer, Program Director Factual & Documentary and Editor-in-Chief RTL Zwei. “From the beginning, the team convinced us with its innovative idea for implementation. Now, the Grimme Prize recognizes this outstanding journalistic and cinematic achievement. At the same time, it recognizes our efforts to address relevant social issues. ‘Hass. Hetze. Hoffnung.’ exemplifies RTL Zwei’s diversity of content and attitude.” “Hass. Hetze. Hoffnung” was created as part of RTL Zwei’s “Doku Lab”. The project supported extraordinary journalistic productions by freelancers and young documentary filmmakers from the research phase to their realization. RTL Zwei is currently working on the further development of the concept in order to continue the “Doku Lab” in an adapted form. Both episodes of “Hass. Hetze. Hoffnung.” are available on RTL+.
