Bertelsmann’s fintech division Riverty has officially launched Riverty Bank S. A. This further expands Bertelsmann’s business activities in Luxembourg, where the company has maintained a presence for several decades, notably through RTL Group.
The new financial institution was officially opened at a ceremony attended by Luxembourg Minister of Finance Gilles Roth; Claude Marx, Director General of the CSSF (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier); Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe; several members of the Bertelsmann Executive Board; and representatives from the business and financial communities and Luxembourg institutions. Riverty Bank strengthens Bertelsmann’s position in one of Europe’s leading business centers while laying the foundation for building the European gateway for merchants and co-creating financial products with them.

Bertelsmann’s ties with Luxembourg go back many years, to the 1984 launch of RTL Plus, Germany’s first commercial television channel, which initially broadcast from Luxembourg before relocating to Cologne in 1988. In 1997, Bertelsmann combined UFA Film- und Fernseh-GmbH with CLT to form CLT-UFA. Three years later, the combination of CLT-UFA and the UK company Pearson TV created RTL Group, in which Bertelsmann has held a majority stake since 2001 and which has its headquarters in Luxembourg. Today, RTL Luxembourg provides news and entertainment to people in Luxembourg and the surrounding region. Its subsidiary Broadcasting Center Europe develops technical solutions for media production, broadcasting, and streaming. Riverty Bank is the latest addition to Bertelsmann’s longstanding presence in Luxembourg.
