Penguin Random House Author John Green Returns With New Novel

Penguin Random House will publish “Hollywood, Ending” worldwide in the English-language market on September 22.

John Green scored a global mega-bestseller in 2012 with “The Fault in Our Stars” – now the Penguin Random House author returns with a new work: “Hollywood, Ending.” It is his first novel in nearly ten years. In the meantime, Green, who has also found success as a YouTuber, published two bestselling nonfiction titles: “The Anthropocene Reviewed” (2021) and “Everything Is Tuberculosis” (2025). “Hollywood, Ending,” Green’s first novel for adults, is set to be published in North America on September 22 by Dutton Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House that has also released his previous works. Penguin will publish the book in the UK. An audiobook edition will be released by Penguin Random House Audio.

“Hollywood, Ending” tells the story of the rise of young actors Kai (20) and Juniper (22). A role in the much-anticipated biopic “Andy Warhol Never Gets Old” is the opportunity they have both been waiting for. The film becomes a major success, and their lives accelerate in exciting but also unsettling ways. This forces them to confront the impact of fame and success on their private lives.

In his new novel, John Green “artfully blends a behind-the-scenes Hollywood love story with an unflinching examination of celebrity and the insatiable attention economy,” the publisher writes in its announcement. Told through dual points of view, the novel follows Kai and Juniper from the first days on location to the movie’s premiere, brilliantly juxtaposing their story with the on-screen study of Warhol’s life at the dawn of celebrity culture.

‘A book about navigating love and loss’

“I’ve spent the last eight years finding my way through this story, and I am so excited to share ‘Hollywood, Ending’ with the world,” John Green said. “It’s a book about navigating love and loss all while participating in the strange, complicated exchanges of attention and trauma of the social internet that has become something no longer reserved for movie stars alone. It’s been a fulfilling journey to bring Kai and Juniper to the page, and I hope it will be as satisfying for readers to meet them.”

“Whether it’s a bench beside an Amsterdam canal or a thin-mooned night in Alabama – John has brought readers to immersive, emotional worlds for more than two decades,” added Green’s longtime editor Julie Strauss-Gabel, “I can’t wait for readers to meet Kai and Juniper, and step into their Hollywood, a world unlike any other. In his extraordinary return to fiction, John has crafted a layers-deep story about two young actors trying to survive in an industry determined to flatten them into two dimensions.”
