“Die With a Smile”, a collaboration between BMG songwriter Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, is well on track towards becoming a global superhit. Last week, the two superstars’ single soared to Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US.
The emotional ballad, co-written by BMG songwriter D'Mile, spent four weeks at number two last November. After “Die With A Smile” fell to number 17 on the Hot 100 since, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga made the impressive leap to Number One this week. “Die With A Smile” has also dominated the Billboard Global 200, spending eight weeks at Number One. Together, the rankings represent an impressive success, as Billboard magazine’s hit lists are considered the most important chart barometer in the USA. Billboard magazine sorts the songs according to success factors such as streaming figures, radio presence and physical sales. “Die With A Smile” is especially successful in streaming and set a new record: The song became the fastest track to reach one billion streams on Spotify. In addition, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga earned nominations for “Song of the Year” and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards.
Two Top 10 listings at the same time
At the same time, the single “APT” released in November – a collaboration between Bruno Mars and Korean-Australian artist Rosé – has climbed from number 34 to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing its previous peak of number 8. Bruno Mars is also highly successful as a solo artist. Last September, Mars broke the record for monthly listeners on Spotify, becoming the first artist to surpass 135 million monthly listeners.
