Good Start For "The Physician"

"The Physician," the elaborate UFA Cinema production based on the novel by Noah Gordon, is very well received by audiences in Germany. Since its box-office release on Dec 25, more than a million people have gone to see the thrilling adventure epic. On New Year's Eve, "The Physician" first pulled ahead of "The Hobbit" to become #1 in the German movie charts. Due to its great success, the number of German movie theaters where the film is playing was increased from 630 to more than 680 for its second week.

"It has always been a great wish of mine to film Noah Gordon's world-famous novel. I am very proud that, together with director Philipp Stölzl, we have succeeded in bringing "The Physician" to the big screen. Naturally, I am all the more delighted by its excellent box-office debut," declares Wolf Bauer, producer and Managing Director at UFA Cinema. Nico Hofmann, his fellow producer and MD at UFA Cinema, adds: "For me, its spectacular box-office success is the audience’s gift to Noah Gordon: his film inspires people just as much as his phenomenal novel."

"The Physician" is a blockbuster beyond Germany as well. In Switzerland, the movie has already attracted 33,000 viewers in the first five days and in Austria, the UFA Cinema production has been watched by 60,500 people, putting it at #2 in the movie charts.
