BMG Brings Seeed Catalog Under One Roof
The music company has acquired the artist and label rights of the German band Seeed.
BMG has acquired the artist and label rights of the German reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop band Seeed. The agreement includes the group’s first five albums: “New Dubby Conquerors” (2001), “Music Monks” (2003), “Next!” (2005), “Live” (2006), and “Seeed” (2012). With the release of “Bam Bam” (2019) via BMG and this latest acquisition, all of the band’s studio albums are now united under one label for the first time.
In a joint statement, Seeed managers Markus Bruns and Lars Grewe said: “We are very pleased to have found a new home for Seeed with BMG, a company that operates internationally from Germany. For us, they are an ideal partner, and we look forward to a successful collaboration going forward.”
Marc Johlen, Managing Director GSA at BMG, added: “Seeed has broken down genre boundaries and inspired a whole new generation of musicians and fans to forge their own path. Their music is part of German cultural heritage, and we are proud to now represent their entire body of work and continue to share their message.”
Catalog is a milestone in German music
Tobias Bönsch, Senior Director M&A CEU Investments at BMG, emphasized: “Seeed’s catalog is a milestone in German music. Their albums rank among the most successful releases of the 2000s and 2010s. Their enduring popularity over the decades makes this catalog a valuable addition to our roster.”
Founded in Berlin in 1998, Seeed is known for its unique blend of reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop. The band’s albums have received a total of eleven Gold and one Platinum certification in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. “Music Monks” reached No. 4 on the German Album Charts and was certified Platinum; “Next!” peaked at No. 2 and was awarded triple Gold; “Seeed” hit No. 1 and also earned triple Gold.
Among the band’s biggest hits are the singles “Dickes B,” “Ding,” and “Augenbling.” “Ding” reached No. 5 in Germany and remained on the charts for 26 weeks. Seeed has also received numerous accolades, including the Echo Award for Best National Newcomer in 2002 and Best National Hip-Hop/R&B in 2004.
