Brit-Pop Legend Suede Announces New Album
Some thirty years after their early successes, the band is experiencing a new career highlight.
Alongside Oasis, Suede is often credited as one of the trailblazers of Britpop. The London-based indie band helped shape the sound of a generation and paved the way for fellow UK acts like Stereophonics, Radiohead, and The Kooks. Now, they’re back with their tenth studio album, “Antidepressants,” set to release this September on BMG. The album was produced by longtime collaborator Ed Buller, who’s been with the band since the beginning – he produced their very first single in 1992 and has remained a steady creative force throughout their journey. As a sneak peek, Suede recently dropped the black-and-white video for their new single “Disintegrate,” giving fans an early taste of what’s to come. BMG has represented the songwriting rights of Brett Anderson, Richard Oakes, and Neil Codling since 2013, and in 2021, BMG also began managing the band’s recorded music catalog.
A career high point – two decades on
Suede’s last album, “Autofiction,” was released in 2022 to widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike. It hit number two on the U.K. charts – Suede’s highest position in twenty years – marking a powerful comeback. During their most recent tour, the band played to the biggest crowds of their career, spanning 14 countries and reigniting their global following.
In recent years, Suede has embraced a more experimental edge, evolving beyond the classic Britpop sound that made them famous. Frontman Brett Anderson describes the upcoming album like this: “If ‘Autofiction’ was our punk record, then ‘Antidepressants’ is our post-punk record. It’s about the pressures of modern life, the paranoia, the anxiety. We are all striving for connection in a disconnected world. This was the feel I wanted the songs to have…This is broken music for broken people.”
Suede takes over London for four days
The band tested many of the new tracks live on stage last year, and in May they shared a live performance of the title track “Antidepressants” on YouTube. To mark the new album’s release this September, Suede will take over London for four nights, performing at different venues across the city as part of their “Suede Takeover” launch campaign.
