Heyne Announces Memoir By Liza Minnelli

The German-language edition of “Liza – Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!” will be published on March 11.

“Showbiz icon” is a label often used lightly – but U.S. singer and actress Liza Minnelli has unquestionably earned it. On March 12 this year, the artist celebrates her 80th birthday, a milestone she anticipated by announcing her memoirs around a year and a half ago. The German-language rights to “Liza – Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!” have been acquired by Heyne, an imprint of the Penguin Random House publishing group. The book will be released on March 11.

In her highly anticipated autobiography, Liza Minnelli offers an intimate look at her extraordinary life – shaped by glamour and unforgettable triumphs, but also by profound personal challenges. As the daughter of legendary Hollywood actress Judy Garland and celebrated director Vincente Minnelli, she was born into the world of show business. A glittering career spanning “Cabaret” and “New York, New York!,” along with countless honors including an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe, cemented her status as a living legend. Behind the accolades, however, came a high personal cost. In her book, Minnelli reflects on the highs and lows of life in the spotlight, on private struggles, and on the unbreakable determination to reinvent herself time and again. More than a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood and Broadway, her autobiography is a tribute to the power of music, the magic of theater, and the resilience that lies within every person.

‘This is my own damn story’

“Since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people asked me to write books about my career ... my life ... my loves ... my family,” Minnelli said in a statement announcing her autobiography in August 2024. “Absolutely not! ‘Tell it when I’m gone!’ was my philosophy. So, why did I change my mind? A sabotaged appearance at the Oscars, in front of billions of people ... a film with twisted half-truths ... a recent miniseries that just didn’t get it right. All made by people who didn’t know my family, and don’t really know me. Finally, I was mad as hell! Over dinner one night, I decided, it’s my own damn story ... I’m gonna share it with you because of all the love you’ve given me.”
