Jelly Roll Sweeps The Grammys
BMG songwriters also contributed to further Grammy-winning songs and albums.
The Grammy Awards are regarded as the world’s most important music prize, so any nomination or win across its 95 categories is a special distinction. This year, BMG country star and songwriter Jelly Roll took home three Grammys. Other songwriters represented by Bertelsmann’s music company also played a key role in award-winning songs, albums, and artist honors.
Three nominations – three awards
Jelly Roll prevailed in all three categories in which he was nominated: “Best Contemporary Country Album,” “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” (together with Kamasi Washington), and “Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.” BMG songwriter Roselilah also had reason to celebrate, earning awards in both “Record of the Year” and “Best Melodic Rap Performance,” while Aoife O’Donovan contributed to wins in the categories “Best American Roots Song” and “Best Folk Album.”
BMG artists also took part in the musical program at the Grammys gala at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Renowned singer and BMG songwriter Bruno Mars and Rosé opened the show with a live performance of their Grammy-nominated track “APT.,” followed by a solo performance by Mars of his global number-one hit “I Just Might” from his upcoming album “The Romantic.” Another highlight of the evening was a live performance by the three-time Grammy-nominated band Spiritbox, whose albums are released via BMG, featuring their also-nominated song “Soft Spine.”
The Grammys have been presented annually by the U.S. industry association Recording Academy since 1959. This year marked the 68th ceremony.
