Sonopress Produces First ‘Eco Record’ For South Korea
The storage media manufacturer produced the new album by South Korean singer-songwriter Junggigo.
Sonopress continues to drive the global expansion of its “Eco Record.” In December, the storage media manufacturer, which is part of Bertelsmann Marketing Services, produced the jazz remake album “Wonderland” as a sustainable LP for an exclusive listening session by renowned South Korean musician Junggigo at Moss Garden in Seoul’s Gangnam district. It is the first “Eco Record” for the South Korean market.
Junggigo, a widely popular artist in South Korea, returns to jazz with “Wonderland,” his second project in the genre. To achieve the highest musical standards, he collaborated with jazz pianist Oh Eun-hye, a formative figure in the Korean jazz scene, who served as arranger and bandleader. As a special feature, Junggigo unveiled a VIP-only limited edition of the new album during the showcase in Seoul, produced by Sonopress in Gütersloh as an “Eco Record.” The event attracted strong interest from the local music and sustainability scene.
Gradually advancing market expansion in the region
“‘Eco Record’ is already a major success in Europe and the U.S. We have now entered the exceptionally dynamic music market in South Korea and hope that our sustainable LP will meet with similarly strong interest in Asia,” says Sven Deutschmann, Managing Director of Sonopress. The goal, he adds, is to gradually advance market expansion in the region.
According to Sonopress, the company is relying on cooperation with local partners as it expands into Asia. These include the South Korean company Plastic Ark, which specializes in innovative upcycling concepts and produces everyday products such as mobile phone cases and home accessories made from 100 percent recycled plastic. The characteristic marbled appearance created during the processing of differently colored plastic waste makes each item unique. Plastic Ark has long been committed to giving residual plastics new value through design and functionality and has already collaborated with well-known brands and artists to increase visibility for sustainability-focused initiatives.
Collaboration with local partners
The company’s market entry into South Korea underscores Sonopress’s ambition to establish the “Eco Record” as an international alternative to conventional vinyl production while supporting the global shift toward more eco-conscious manufacturing processes.
