‘Floating In Heaven’: Soundtrack For Historic Images

On Tuesday, June 12, NASA presented the first science-quality images from the James Webb Space Telescope. BMG artist Graham Gouldman of 10cc teamed up with Queen co-founder Brian May for the historic occasion. Gouldman composed the song "Floating In Heaven", which they recorded together.

On Tuesday, the first science-quality images from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope went around the world, and BMG artist Graham Gouldman of 10cc teamed up with Queen co-founder and guitarist Brian May to supply the soundtrack. “Floating In Heaven” was written and performed by BMG songwriter Gouldman and features Brian May on guitar and vocals.

The James Webb Space Telescope entered orbit in December 2022 at a distance of around 1.5 million kilometers from earth. It is the most powerful telescope ever launched into space and will succeed NASA’s Hubble telescope. “I fell in love with the James Webb Space Telescope when it was first launched in December of last year,” said Graham Gouldman. “I followed its progress on the NASA website and was inspired to write ‘Floating In Heaven’. It has been a joy having Brian May collaborate with me on the track and contribute his beautiful guitar work. When science and music come together, beautiful things can happen.”

Graham Gouldman is best known as the co-lead singer, bassist and co-writer of many 10cc hits including “I’m Not In Love”, “The Things We Do For Love” and “Dreadlock Holiday”. He has been the band's only constant member since its formation in 1972. He has worked as a freelance songwriter and penned several hits for major artists such as the Yardbirds, the Hollies and Herman's Hermits, among others. Graham Gouldman joined BMG through the acquisition of Union Square in 2014. Today, BMG is the proud publisher of his solo work, his co-writes on commercially released works, as well as neighboring rights. With “World and Travel – The Traveller” he also delivered an album for BMG’s Altitude Underscore production music label.
