"Embracing cultural diversity frees innovation and leads to more growth for our companies and improved collaboration between people. In our increasingly globalized markets, cultural diversity will become an even more important competitive factor."
Liz Mohn, Vice Chairwoman of the Executive Board, Bertelsmann Stiftung, Chairwoman of the Board, Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH
Bertelsmann employs around 119,000 people in over 50 countries. To successfully expand the global activities of our businesses, Bertelsmann has to gain new markets and customers for our products and services. That is why we promote mobility and internal exchange at all levels of the Group. We are convinced that our executives will lead the Bertelsmann Group successfully having gained experience in different countries, divisions and functions.
Bertelsmann „Exchange Initiative“
The Bertelsmann Exchange Initiative provides employees short-term professional exchange opportunities within the Group, currently operating between the Corporate Center, Gutersloh and divisional companies in Germany and other selected countries. Placements are available for up to three months. Additional exchanges of employees are available between the Gutersloh location and the Group's international Corporate Centers located in New York (USA), Beijing (China), New Delhi (India) and Sao Paulo (Brazil). Through these national and international exchanges, opportunities for collaboration, mobility, knowledge transfer and networking between Corporate Center and divisional or company employees are increased.
Bertelsmann's intercultural calendar offers employees from all over the world an opportunity to contribute information on important national, cultural and religious holidays in the countries Bertelsmann operates in. Colleagues around the world tell their traditions and what the holidays mean to them, how they are celebrated in their country, how the holiday affects their daily work, and how they experience these special days. The online calendar provides practical information such as office closings, but also raises awareness of the various holidays' cultural and traditional significance. The contributions – among others, Corpus Christi Day, Diwali, the Festival of Lights and Saint Patrick's Day – are a testament to our colleagues' diverse backgrounds and lives.
