Bertelsmann is gifting 57 book packages worth a total of €7,000 to Gütersloh daycare centers.

To mark UNESCO World Book Day on April 23, Bertelsmann is giving away packages of ten children’s books to 57 kindergartens and daycare centers in Gütersloh. The book packages contain current Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe publications with titles like “Meine ersten Tiere. Auf dem Bauernhof” (My First Animals – On The Farm) by Franziska Jaekel, “Tröste den Tiger – Ein Fühl-Mitmachbuch” (Comfort the Tiger – A Touch & Feel Book) by Nico Sternbaum and “Mipsi Moorlicht und das Waldgeheimnis” (Mipsi Moorlight and the Forest Mystery) by Nina Blazon. The books have a total value of over €7,000.

Karin Schlautmann, Head of Corporate Communications at Bertelsmann, emphasizes the importance of World Book Day: “The ability to read is an indispensable key to participating in life, for everyone, whether at work or in their free time. Children learn to read earlier and more easily when they are read to. Reading aloud or looking at picture books together gives them a feel for language and gives them a head start in life. Reading aloud creates opportunities for an independent future. We want to support this with our book donation to the Gütersloh daycare centers.”

World Book Day was established by UNESCO in 1995: This year marks the 30th anniversary. From its inception, the day has served as a celebration of books, reading, and reading aloud to others. The idea behind it goes back to a Spanish tradition that involves giving books to family and close friends on the name day of the Catalan patron saint Sant Jordi (St. George).
