BMG is again represented in the Uhlala Group’s Pride Index this year and is one of the leading LGBTIQ+-friendly employers in Germany. For the third consecutive year, the music company ranks among the Top 3 mid-sized companies.
For the third consecutive year, BMG has been named one of the most LGBTIQ+-friendly employers in Germany. This year, BMG was one of the three mid-sized companies to receive the highest overall score on the annual LGBTIQ+ Diversity Performance Index (Pride Index) of the social enterprise Uhlala Group, based on workplace initiatives. BMG scored 100% in the Pride Index categories “DEI Management”, “Education, Training & Information”, “Internal Communications”, and “Protection Against Discrimination”. BMG is the only music company in the ranking and aims to promote an inclusive workplace for all people through its commitment to the LGBTIQ+ community.
In 2024, BMG offices worldwide hosted various Pride-themed events to celebrate diversity and inclusion and reinforce the company's commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and allyship. The Pride Week at the Berlin headquarters featured an allyship workshop, a Pride party, a queer walking tour, and a charity bake sale. The week culminated in a shared parade float with other Bertelsmann divisions via the be.queer network for Berlin’s official Christopher Street Day parade.
“Intensifying our DEI efforts is crucial”
Pierrot Raschdorff, Senior Director Global Corporate Responsibility at BMG, said: “This award makes us proud, but we must keep moving forward. In these challenging times, with rising discrimination and hostility – particularly towards queer people – intensifying our DEI efforts is crucial. Workplaces must be safe spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.” Markus Jeroma, Director Global Talent Acquisition at BMG, said: “At BMG, diversity is integral to our culture and fuels our creativity. Being recognized in the Pride Index underscores our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We will continue to advocate for LGBTIQ+ rights and ensure that our workplace is welcoming to all.”
The Pride Index evaluates the commitment of companies, organizations, and public institutions in Germany to their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) employees. It aims to map the LGBTIQ+ diversity management of employers, highlight the potential for further development, and serve as a tool for comparing the commitment of companies in this space. The evaluation is based on a questionnaire with up to 75 questions in four categories, which surveys structural framework conditions for an inclusive workplace. At least 60% of the points must be scored to be added to the index.
