Since May 1, more than 3,000 Bertelsmann employees around the world have been actively participating in “Fit for Work,” which is already a record. Bertelsmann is honoring their great commitment by doubling the amount to be donated to SOS Children’s Villages.
Since the beginning of May, more than 3,000 participants have already actively covered more than 720,000 kilometers together. “We are delighted that so many colleagues around the world are taking part in the campaign. This is already a new participation record,” noted our colleagues at Bertelsmann Sport und Gesundheit and Bertelsmann BKK, commenting on their latest “Fit for Work” update.
All “active” kilometers covered in your everyday (work) life, such as walks during your lunch break, bike rides to work or to go shopping, or a round of inline skating after work, count and can be entered in the action calendar on the “Fit for Work” online platform. Every day counts, whether it’s a workday, weekend, holiday or vacation day. The important thing is to boost your own health and cut emissions in a climate-friendly way by integrating more activity into your daily routine and just leaving the car at home for a change.
Record participation and doubling of the donation sum
“The high level of commitment shown by the numerous employees who are actively participating in the ‘Fit for Work’ campaign around the world is impressive. We have therefore decided to double our original donation of 5,000 euros,” announced Bertelsmann Chief HR Officer Immanuel Hermreck. So if more than 800,000 kilometers are covered altogether, Bertelsmann will transfer €10,000 to the SOS Children’s Villages international aid organization – and the donation target is already close to being reached. The SOS Children’s Villages provide underserved children and teens around the world with a loving home and individual education opportunities, and prepare them for an independent life.
Under the “Fit for Work” campaign, active kilometers can be collected as individual participants, within one’s own company, and even in teams of up to six colleagues. Colleagues at more than 200 Bertelsmann sites are participating right now - from Australia to Malaysia and Sweden. Penguin Random House in New York has the most active participants at the moment, while colleagues from RTL Deutschland in Hamburg have collected the most kilometers so far.
