Penguin Random House Supports LGBTQ+ Books In NYC Classrooms
Subject: Society
Country: USA
Category: Project
Penguin Random House has supported Lambda Literary’s “LGBTQ+ Writers in Schools” program in the US this year. The initiative partners with the NYC Department of Education to bring LGBTQ+ writers and their works to K-12 classrooms across New York City. Since 2015, every student in the program has received a copy of the featured book, followed by a visit from the author, who signs each student’s copy. The program primarily serves Title 1 schools, which cater to children from low-income backgrounds, making access to LGBTQ+ literature crucial for LGBTQ+ students and their allies. In total, over 160 visits of writers across the city were scheduled as part of the “LGBTQ+ Writers in Schools” program, with the following Penguin Random House authors showcasing their titles: Alexandra Villasante (“The Grief Keeper”), Mark Oshiro (“Into The Light”), Kyle Lukoff (“Too Bright To See”), Rob Sanders (“Stonewall: A Building. An Uprising. A Revolution”), Jake Maia Arlow (“The Year My Life Went Down The Toilet”), Soraya Palmer (“The Human Origins Of Beatrice Porter And Other Essential Ghosts”), Camryn Garrett (“Friday I’m In Love”), Camryn Garrett (“Off The Record”), Camryn Garrett (“Full Disclosure”), Chella Man (“Continuum”), Junauda Petrus (“The Stars And The Blackness Between Them”), Kyle Lukoff (“Different Kinds Of Fruit”) and Rod Pulido (“Chasing Paquiao”).
