"Fit for Work 2020" with new record number of participants

Subject: Employees, Environment
Country: Germany

More than 1,200 colleagues from all over Germany took part in the 2020 "Fit for Work" campaign organized by Bertelsmann Fitness and Health and Bertelsmann BKK. They covered a total of over 500,000 kilometers. Attractive prizes were raffled off among the participants.

Over the past few months, more than 1,200 Bertelsmann employees throughout Germany demonstrated how everyday work can be combined with physical activity as part of "Fit for Work" - more than at any time since Bertelsmann Fitness and Health and Bertelsmann BKK launched the campaign ten years ago. Together, they covered more than 500,000 kilometers in various ways. That is roughly 625 times the distance from Gruner + Jahr in Hamburg to the Penguin Random House publishing group in Munich. A car would have emitted around 100,000 kilograms of climate-damaging CO2 over this distance.

During the campaign period from June to September, the "active" kilometers included not only the commute to work, but also other distances covered around the workday, such as the walk during the lunch break, the bike ride to the supermarket, or the after-work run. "This is a super addition to the previous campaign and thus also feasible for colleagues who do not work on site," said the Bertelsmann Fitness and Health team, enthusiastic about the innovation. This year, for the first time, participants were able to use a digital action platform and, for example, save their activities in an "action calendar" on a daily basis. Company teams made it possible to collect kilometers together with colleagues on site. A total of 136 company teams were active at the various locations. The largest teams in terms of numbers came from DDV Mediengruppe in Dresden, the Corporate Center in Gütersloh and Arvato Systems in Gütersloh and Bielefeld.

The winners of attractive prizes

Those who took part on at least 20 days or covered 200 kilometers had the chance to win attractive prizes from sponsors related to cycling, sports and health. The top prize, an e-mountain bike from Fischer worth more than 2,000 euros, went to a colleague from Arvato Supply Chain Solutions in Gütersloh. A participant from Mohn Media in Gütersloh was delighted with a 500-euro voucher or a mountain bike from Lucky Bike. Other prizes such as Ortlieb bike bags and Sebamed packages went to colleagues from various locations, for example from DDV Mediengruppe in Dresden, several Arvato locations in Bielefeld, Gütersloh and Berlin, Chefkoch in Bonn and Vox in Cologne, as well as Ad Alliance in Hamburg. Drink bottles and sports towels from Bertelsmann BKK were also raffled off. "A special feature this year was the BKK raffle at the halfway point of the campaign, with a high-quality Apple Watch as the prize," adds Miriam Wigand from the Bertelsmann BKK Health Management team.
