On Friday, RTL and NTV launched a new news format in Ukrainian. “Ukraine Update” is available Monday through Friday on the rtl.news and ntv.de websites and on Youtube. In the new news format, well-known Ukrainian TV journalist Karolina Ashion covers the most important issues surrounding the Ukraine conflict as well as the everyday lives of refugees in Germany every day in programs lasting around ten minutes each. Karolina Ashion, 46, is a renowned TV journalist from Kiev and has worked for more than 20 years in the Ukrainian television business and at various channels as a journalist and presenter. She fled to Germany at the beginning of the war.
“Since the beginning of the war, we have provided our viewers and users with a high-quality news offering,” said Stephan Schmitter, Managing Director of RTL News. “We are right where it’s happening. We work hard to verify the material. The situation of the people in Ukraine and the refugees in Germany is distressing - the ‘Ukraine Update’ is meant to give them a verified overview of the news. We will also strengthen our team with more colleagues from Ukraine in hopes of giving them some sense of normalcy and security here with us.” Karolina Ashion said: “I see this project as a privilege. I would like to contribute so that people who are seeking protection here in Germany can learn about what is happening in our homeland.”
