Information, Education and Entertainment for All
Media has the potential to reach as many people as there are interests and social and cultural backgrounds, providing them with information, education and entertainment. Bertelsmann offers media content and services at any time and in all available places. Our business model is geared to customers and users. Their diversity, their needs and their interests are reflected in the diversity of our content and formats.
Customer orientation also means making information, education and entertainment accessible to people with special needs. We offer our content in a variety of formats and platforms modified to the individual needs of our customers and users. It is the goal of each of our divisions to set up services that make media accessible to everyone. Digitization – one of our Group's strategic priorities – is helping to accomplish this goal.
Our news magazine, "Stern," has been published selected articles in Braille for almost 50 years and today provides free podcasts and audio downloads on the website of the German Central Library for the Sight Impaired. Gruner + Jahr's "Brigitte" magazine has been available entirely in Braille since 2002 and was the first women's magazine to be accessible to the visually impaired in Germany. RTL Group's channels broadcast subtitled and or synchronized programming in sign language, and M6 in France regularly exceeds the statutory requirements for making subtitled programming available.
We believe that these are among the contributions we can make to creating more inclusive society.
