Bertelsmann has published the annually required Communication on Progress (COP) for the United Nations Global Compact. With more than 10,000 participating companies, the Global Compact is the biggest corporate responsibility initiative in the world. Bertelsmann has been a member since 2008 and has committed to annually report on its engagement in human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

Bertelsmann Chairman and CEO Thomas Rabe says in the foreword to the report: “We take responsibility for the impacts of our actions on society and the environment and base our commitment to the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact on it.”

The COP provides information on performance indicators as well as management approaches and strategies implemented at Bertelsmann: among other things, it reports on the implementation of the Group-wide data protection management IT system, statutes and guidelines for securing the editorial and artistic independence in the daily business, and the diversity strategy through which Bertelsmann promotes an open and creative working environment for all employees.

The Bertelsmann reporting, prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative, is available in German and English at https://www.bertelsmann.com/corporate-responsibility/reporting/.
