Last Wednesday was World Environment Day and, at the same time, “be green Day” at Bertelsmann – and DK offices round the world focused their activities on the protection of the environment. In the publishing group’s head offices in London, colleagues and external guests set up various stalls. The consumer organization Smart Energy explained how they measure household gas and electricity and send readings to energy suppliers so that customers receive accurate bills and are conscious of their energy usage. A green-focused book sale, green apples and several competitions completed the range of activities.

The DK US team shared facts from the DK books “What a Waste” and “How We’re F***ing Up Our Planet”, along with tips on how to better the environment. DK US also encouraged its employees to plant trees and reduce plastic waste with reusable coffee cups and paper straws.

DK India celebrated with a week of activities. The team invited children into the office for workshops on saving the planet. A discussion round dealt with the importance of recycling, and a daily quiz for all employees, who had a chance to win environmentally friendly prizes, was held.

The team of DK Australia joined forces with their Penguin Random House Australia colleagues to promote their new book, “How to Save the Whole Stinkin’ Planet”, giving free copies to employees with young children, and sending out a newsletter about what they can do to be more environmentally friendly in their everyday lives and at work. DK colleagues round the visibly demonstrated their commitment to reducing the environmental impact by wearing green and sustainable clothing.
