DK Promotes Reading Pleasure With ‘Star Wars’

Subject: Media & Services
Country: Germany
Category: Project

The German DK Verlag will once again commit itself to the “Star Wars Reads Day” on October 13 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In addition to campaigns at its stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair, DK will provide free materials to bookstores and libraries. The campaign day aims to promote reading pleasure through the popularity of “Star Wars”.

The “Star Wars” universe provides so many suspenseful stories that, even after the return of the science fiction sage to movie theater screens, only a fraction of them can be told in a film. Therefore, it is no surprise that fans can choose from an increasingly large number of books and illustrated books about the far away, distant galaxy. The “Star Wars” adventures are reading material that fascinates young and older readers alike. This year, the “Star Wars Reads Day” once again wants to use this popularity this year to promote the pleasure of reading and printed books. The German DK Verlag supports the campaign day, which takes place on October 13 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Since the date coincides with the Frankfurt Book Fair, DK will transform its stand E 65 in hall 3 into a colorful “Star Wars” world on this day. Visitors can experience characters from the story in original costumes, get made up like Queen Amidala or Darth Maul and, of course, discover plenty of new and known book titles from the DK “Star Wars” portfolio. For the publisher, “Star Wars Reads Day” is an obligatory date since it regularly publishes high-quality and richly illustrated nonfiction books, chronicles, and encyclopedias about the most successful film series of all times – not only in the German speaking region, but also worldwide. In addition, Blanvalet, a Verlagsgruppe Random House publisher, has numerous novels from the Star Wars universe in its program.

Free Campaign Packages

DK’s commitment to the campaign day goes beyond the book fair presentation. The publisher provides free packages for a successful reading day under the sign of “Star Wars” to the participating institutions in the three countries. The materials can be ordered via the sales representatives or directly from DK. The publisher’s website additionally offers an event package for download, and a list of all of the participating bookstores and libraries.

The “Star Wars Reads Day” has been a big event in the German speaking region with around 1,000 bookstores, schools, libraries, and toy stores participating. The space saga with Jedi knights, spaceships, aliens, glowing lightsabers, and the battle between the light and dark side of the force has had a cult status for decades. Even “reading grouches” pick up books thanks to fascinating characters, such as Darth Vader, Yoda, Rey, or BB-8. DK wanted to continue the successful result of “Star Wars Reads Day”, according to the publisher – naturally, always under the motto: “May the force be with you!”
