Successful Start For German Audiobook Publishers In 2020

On its first 2020 bestsellers list, the “German Record Critics’ Award” honors several audiobooks released by Verlagsgruppe Random House in the categories “Spoken Word (Verbal Art)” and “Recordings for Children and Young Adults”. The jury evaluated the artistic quality, repertoire value and audio quality.
The “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik e.V.” – “German Record Critics’ Award” publishes bestsellers lists quarterly to honor the most interesting new releases of the previous three months – and Hörverlag, Audio Verlag and Random House Audio currently have good reasons to celebrate in the literary segment. The audiobook publishers of Verlagsgruppe Random House provide half of all the listed titles on the year’s first bestsellers list.
In the “Spoken Word (Verbal Art)” category, the titles “Die Bibel – Altes und Neues Testament” read by Rufus Beck (DAV), Ulrich Alexander Boschwitz’s “Menschen neben dem Leben” read by Hans Löw (DAV), the audio play “Leb wohl, Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood (der Hörverlag) as well as Salman Rushdie’s “Quichotte” read by Sascha Rotermund (der Höverlag) made it onto the list. In the “Recordings for Children and Young Adults” category, the audiobooks “Entspannung für Kinder – Fantasiereisen” (der Hörverlag), “Der Weihnachtosaurus und die Winterhexe” (DAV) and “Viel Spaß mit Onkel Tobi” (DAV) were honored with a place on the bestsellers list.
The jury of the award consists of 156 music critics and journalists from German, Austria and Switzerland. They evaluate the artistic quality, repertoire value, presentation and audio quality. The overview below presents all of the nominees from Verlagsgruppe Random House:
